Give seal pups a chance: help us get through the pup season

Every summer, we are on hand to care for dozens of vulnerable seal pups who desperately need our help. On average, we take in around 65 pups, who would have no chance of survival without our care.

Many of these pups have been orphaned due to human activity and disturbance in their habitat, causing them to lose their mothers and be left to fend for themselves. In our sanctuary, they receive the rest and care they need to regain the strength to return to the sea.

For this, we need your help. The biggest expense during the pup season is food: herring and salmon mash. In a single summer alone, the pups together eat an average of 7,200 kilos of herring and a whopping 400 kilos of salmon mash. Essential nutrition that helps them grow stronger and thrive.

The total cost of this food is € 8,884.- That is a considerable sum, but together we can make it happen.

Het is onze overtuiging dat gezonde zeehonden en een gezonde zee onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden zijn. In ons centrum bestuderen onderzoekers wat we van dit principe kunnen leren. Voor de zeehond, voor onze zee én voor onze eigen gezondheid. Met een bezoek of donatie ondersteun je ons werk. Elke bijdrage telt. Doe je mee?

Beste zorg voor zeehonden

Toen we in 1971 van start gingen, was de zeehond bijna uitgestorven in Nederland. Inmiddels staat de zeehond niet meer op de rode lijst van bedreigde zoogdieren. In vrijheid en op hun plek in de Waddenzee: zo zien we zeehonden het liefst. Dit succes danken we grotendeels aan de onvermoeibare bijdrage van professionals, vrijwilligers en donateurs.

Helaas zullen er altijd zeehonden zijn die hulp nodig hebben, bijvoorbeeld omdat ze in zwerfafval verstrikt zijn geraakt. Als het moet, worden de dieren naar ons centrum gebracht. Hier staan dierenartsen, verzorgers en vrijwilligers voor ze klaar. Ons toegewijde team steekt elke dag opnieuw de handen uit de mouwen.
